Auropolybasite is a gold-bearing member of the polybasite group of sulfosalt minerals, crystallizing in the monoclinic system. It occurs as black metallic tabular crystals or platy masses in high-temperature epithermal and mesothermal gold-silver deposits. The mineral is of economic significance as a gold carrier in precious metal ore systems and of scientific interest for characterizing gold substitution in complex sulfosalt crystal structures.
