Native aluminium is an extremely rare mineral occurring as tiny metallic grains, most commonly reported from unusual geological environments such as metamorphic rocks subjected to strong reducing conditions or in association with coal fires. It has a cubic crystal system with a characteristic bright silvery metallic luster and Mohs hardness of about 2.5. While native aluminium is mineralogically rare, the element itself is the most abundant metal in Earth's crust and of enormous industrial importance.
