Allanite-(Sm) is a samarium-dominant member of the allanite subgroup within the epidote supergroup, crystallizing in the monoclinic system. It appears as dark brown to black prismatic crystals with a submetallic to resinous luster, typically found in granitic pegmatites and metamorphic rocks enriched in rare earth elements. This mineral is scientifically significant for its role in constraining geological ages through REE-bearing mineral dating and as a tracer of REE fractionation in igneous systems.
