Native zinc is a hexagonal mineral occurring as silvery metallic masses or grains, extremely rare in nature but reported from unusual strongly reducing environments including some metamorphic rocks and as inclusions in certain minerals. It has a Mohs hardness of approximately 2.5 and a bright metallic luster. Industrially, zinc is the fourth most widely used metal globally, essential for galvanizing steel, producing brass alloys, and as a component in batteries, paints, and pharmaceuticals.
