Pumpellyite-(Fe3+) is the ferric iron-dominant member of the pumpellyite group of sorosilicates族, occurring in oxidized low-grade metamorphic and hydrothermally altered volcanic sequences. It forms dark brownish-green to reddish-brown prismatic crystals or fibrous aggregates, distinguished from the Fe2+ member by its oxidized iron valence state. The mineral provides information about redox conditions during low-temperature metamorphism in subduction-related terranes.
