Pumpellyite-(Fe2+) is a ferrous iron-dominant member of the pumpellyite group of sorosilicates族, crystallizing in the monoclinic system. It occurs as dark green to black prismatic crystals or fibrous masses in low-grade metamorphic greenschist and blueschist facies rocks, as well as in hydrothermally altered volcanic rocks. The mineral is a key indicator mineral for pumpellyite-prehnite facies metamorphism and is studied in the context of subduction zone mineralogy.
