Native palladium is a cubic mineral occurring as silver-white to gray metallic grains and nuggets in platinum-group element placers族, dunite and pyroxenite bodies, and as micro-inclusions in chromitite. It has a Mohs hardness of 4.75 and is one of the rarer and more valuable platinum-group metals. The Ural Mountains族, South Africa's Bushveld Complex, and the Norilsk deposits in Russia are major sources; palladium is critically important for catalytic converters and fuel cell technology.
