Xenotime-(Gd) is a gadolinium-dominant member of the xenotime group of rare earth phosphate minerals, crystallizing in the tetragonal system as prismatic crystals with a vitreous to resinous luster. It occurs in granitic pegmatites and metamorphic rocks rich in heavy rare earth elements, particularly those with elevated gadolinium relative to other HREEs. The mineral is studied for its crystal chemical position in the xenotime-chernovite series and for its geochronological applications.
