Vanpeltite is a rare iron copper sulfide mineral first described from hydrothermal sulfide ore deposits in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It forms metallic dark gray to black prismatic crystals or massive aggregates in Cu-Fe sulfide ore assemblages. The mineral is of scientific interest for its crystal chemistry within the complex iron-copper sulfide system and adds to the known mineralogy of the Katanga copper belt.
