Johnkoivulaite is a rare beryllium-bearing cyclosilicate mineral related to osumilite, found in unusual gneissic metamorphic rocks subjected to ultrahigh-temperature conditions. It forms colorless to pale blue prismatic crystals and was named in honor of gemologist John I. Koivula. The mineral is of scientific interest for its crystal chemical relationship to osumilite and for its occurrence in extreme metamorphic environments.
