Chromviskontite is a chromium-rich analogue of viskontite, a complex phosphate silicate mineral found in metamorphic terranes and unusual alkaline igneous rocks. It occurs as small dark greenish crystals and is one of few minerals accommodating significant chromium in a silicophosphate framework. The mineral is primarily of scientific interest for crystal chemical studies of Cr-bearing phosphate silicates.
