Native cerium is an extremely rare element mineral reported from unusual reducing environments, including inclusions in certain meteorites and extraordinarily rare terrestrial occurrences. It is silvery in color with a metallic luster, belonging to the cubic crystal system. While native cerium is of purely mineralogical curiosity, cerium as an element is the most abundant rare earth element, widely used in catalytic converters, polishing compounds, and glass manufacturing.
