Native arsenic is a trigonal mineral forming silvery gray, reniform to massive metallic aggregates in hydrothermal veins, often tarnishing to dark gray or black upon exposure to air. It has a Mohs hardness of 3.5 and a characteristic garlic-like odor when struck. Notable occurrences include Freiberg in Germany and Kongsberg in Norway, where it is associated with silver sulfosalt minerals; arsenic is widely used in semiconductor production, wood preservatives, and pesticides.
