Anorthoyttrialite-(Y) is a rare yttrium-dominant thorium silicate mineral of the yttrialite group, forming in granitic pegmatites with high concentrations of heavy rare earth elements. It typically appears as brown to black metamict masses due to radiation damage from thorium and uranium impurities. The mineral is scientifically studied as a host phase for heavy REEs and as an example of radiation-induced amorphization in complex silicates.
