Chatoyancy (Gem)

The mobile bright band seen in cat's-eye gems such as chrysoberyl cat's-eye, caused by reflection from densely packed parallel fibrous inclusions or tubes. Best displayed in cabochon cuts oriented perpendicular to the fibers.
