Skogbyite is a rare sodium magnesium pyroxene of the acmite-jadeite series, crystallizing in the monoclinic system as dark greenish to black prismatic crystals. It occurs in eclogite and high-pressure metamorphic rocks, as well as in some alkaline igneous assemblages. The mineral is named for Swedish mineralogist Henrik Skogby and is of significance for understanding high-pressure Na-Mg pyroxene chemistry.
