Ohtaniite is a rare calcium iron silicate mineral first described from skarns or calc-silicate xenoliths in Japan, named in honor of Japanese mineralogist Eiichi Ohtani. It forms pale brownish to colorless tabular microcrystals in high-temperature metasomatic zones. The mineral contributes to knowledge of Ca-Fe silicate phase relations in contact metamorphic and skarn environments.
