Steiningerite is a rare copper selenite mineral first described from the oxidized zones of selenium-bearing copper deposits in Austria. It forms pale blue to blue-green prismatic microcrystals in gossan assemblages associated with other secondary copper selenium minerals. The mineral is named for Austrian mineralogist Josef Steininger and adds to the known diversity of natural copper selenite phases.
